Here is a DSC-P1 that was received with the lens shutter assembly not opening or closing all the way. This is a repairable failure.
The lens is repaired followed by a good cleaning and calibration test.
I believe the nature of the problem is excess shock of the lens when it is in the extended position. Shock in any axis could cause this.

Here is the symptom: The camera screen blacks out, images taken before can be played back but nothing will show through the viewfinder. It is like the lens cap is still on. Maybe every now and then things work right but the problem comes back. You ring Sony and get a $900 estimate.

Cure: Send it to me and for a fraction of the above quote you can have the problem repaired. I have seen this several times now and have a good solid fix that will be done in just a couple of days.

WEAR YOUR WRIST STRAP!
Lately there has been a number of T1 camera coming in with broken LCD screens. Be careful, the camera is slippery. If you dont wear the wrist strap, you are asking for trouble.
You also need an LCD protector for the camera. This helps prevent breakage of a fairly expensive screen.
Repair turnaround here is just a few days if you need it and all LCD changes require an LCD protector be installed at the time of repair.
For the price of the protector, it is the best insurance policy you could ever buy.
Here is the symptom: The front of the lens, around the outer ring is loose.

Cure: The camera will need to be disassembled and the ring reinstalled and locked into place so you wont have the problem duplicate in the future.
